Isola Verde Camping Nettuno Rome is close to beaches with clear water
Torre Astura is a costal tower fortified and recognized as one of Lazio’s islands. It is located in the commune of Nettuno nearby Isola Verde Camping Nettuno Rome.
Here, during the imperial era, a villa was constructed with a structure partially build on land and partially on an artificial island featuring a fishpond still visible today.
In 1193 the structure fell under the control of Frangipane family, who built a sea fortress to protect from the Saraceni. The fortress had a pentagonal tower surrounded by water and connected to land by a bridge with arches made from bricks.
The area surrounding Torre Astura is wild and natural with a pine tree forest and the river Astura flowing through.
